i’m fementing my third batch of beer now . I started with a coopers malt extract and powder malt. but i’m enjoying all the aromas and the way my beer tastes with all grain recipes. GREAT videos by the way i agree with the simplicty of your style CHEERS!
Blowouts are normal even with the kit yeast. I would use a blow off tube, and I have no idea why it would lessen the beer flavour. It never did for me. There is no chance of contamination because stuff is always moving out and away from the fermemter. You can switch to a blowoff tube anytime during the fermentation, just don’t let any exposed beer fall into your fermenter when you pull the airlock off. Everything will be fine, not to worry. (Sanitize the rubber bung that goes into the hole.)
I bought a packet of 11g of yeast instead of the 7g that comes with the coopers can. Does that have anything to do with it? Should I use a blow off tube? if so, I heard that could potentially lessen the flavor of the beer? If I do switch to blow off do I risk contamination? Sorry for this huge post. Just being a worry wort! Thanks again Craig. Nice music by the way
before I picthed the yeast. Well it was at about 76 degrees so I decided to go head and pitch it, but after I pitched it and sealed the pale, I noticed that it went back up to 79, almost 80 degrees. I thought I mixed it thouroughly, but maybe not?… Anyway, what I”m getting at, is that this morning I woke up (12 hours later) and noticed beer and foam inside the air lock. Some had overflowed onto the bucket, but not much. I’m using the same airlock as you do in this video.
Hi Craig, I really appreciate you answering all of our questions, as amature as they are, you are very patient! On that note, I just started my first batch of brew yesterday. It is a Brewmaster Wheat Beer from Coopers. I used 2lbs of dry malt with the extract, and also added one cup of corn sugar. By the time I had started I realized I didnt have a long spoon with my kit, so I used one of the tubes that I had sanitized instead. I also noticed that the tempurature called for 75 degrees…
Glad to hear that. I’ll probably never go all grain. I don’t have the time to do it that way, and make the videos. It’s all about simple for me. Making beer easily… and simply enjoying it more because of how simple it is.
Craig man, you got me hooked just over a year ago and now I’m an allgrain fanatic. Cheers for that early inspiration. Wondering if you’ll ever go allgrain? I reckon you’ve got the passion and just imagine the vids you could make then!
Hi Craig, You’ve really made me want to start brewing at home. Thanks for the vids! I was wondering if you could let us know how to create a higher alchohol content in your beer? Say an 8%? Is it just a simple matter as adding more sugar? Any help would be great. Thanks again!
Hey Craig,i was making my brew today, and i accidently DROPPED the entire mineral water bottle into the fermenter as I was adding the water into the wort! Do u think it would get contaminated? I took it out with my hands BTW.
Hi Craig,
weeks ago i found your videos on the net… a short time later my first beer was botteled and now (twenty empty bottles later) i just wanted to say thank you! Brewing is fun and the beer tastes great. Keep at it! Best regards from Switzerland…
